We cheered on the runners entering Central Park, then went in The Guggenheim to see the Cattelan retrospective. A few years ago, Jokin' was so taken with his sculpture of Pinocchio.

He wasn't sure why Pinocchio was so sad and said it made him want to cry.

Today's viewing showed he had a joyful face.

For all of the criticism the exhibit has received, we enjoyed being able to have different perspectives of the pieces and talked all the way home about each one.

Dreams Come True!

To have Slap Back Jack shown in festivals around the world and winning awards has been an honor and exciting. I mean our NAPPA GOLD AWARD and the Kid's First! Endorsement, pretty much did us in.

I Could've Been Al Roker

We we hightailed it off the Vineyard a day early (so did The Obama's) to beat the storm and the ferry crowds. Instead of going back to the city, we drove straight up to high ground and went to the house. We had furious rain and lost power, but we always lose power in a big rain storm.
It wasn't until the winds came that I got worried- for our baby weeping willow tree and for when Paulie Coconuts would need to go out for a walk.
The power came back on in the middle of our Ping Pong Irene Tourney and we celebrated with PIE!
Getting back downstate today would prove the hardest test of our patience.
We drove past floating houses and washed out roads.

It took us 7.5 hours.
Back in the city, I was so relieved to finally get out of the car and we each disappeared into different rooms for a couple hours.
We met back up at the table for dinner and were grateful for our undamaged house, our undamaged apartment, and a wicked fun vacation.

We decided to turn our screening of Slap Back Jack at Cinema Circus (Martha's Vineyard Film Festival) into a week long vacation in Chilmark.

Lucy Vincent Beach gave us perfect waves, Hancock Beach provided glorious early morning walks, and Alley's had everything we needed.

Like sugar.

The Obama's were our neighbors, so I always had a cup of sugar at the ready.

We discovered how incredible Pier 25 on the Hudson is.

New squishy floors in the playground, fun water sports, clean sand in the beach volleyball court, great mini-golf course, turfed up ball field and perfect lunch spot, and basketball courts that weren't crowded.

Jokin' was kind of concerned that the skaters in the skate park weren't wearing helmets and kept wiping out.

Once a upon a time (and the ONLY time,) I worked as a waiter in an NYC restaurant, I failed miserably. It was called The Health Pub. It was a vegetarian/vegan joint that only kooky people went to. My favorite busboy, Raman, took orders for my tables and I sat at the juice bar drinking concoctions made by my sweet sweet manager who called me Teenage Queen. On one of my first days, I spilled a whole tray of water filled glasses onto my customers. The lady at the head of the table said, "It's okay, Honey, water makes things grow."

I was so stressed out and nervous to go to my shoot today.

It wasn't because I didn't think I would do a good job...I always do a good job.

It was because I was told there would not be a stylist with racks upon racks of clothes, as per the norm.

I was to bring my OWN clothes. BUSINESS CLOTHES.

Usually I can fake these kinds of things but, uh...I don't REALLY work in an office.

I have boas and stupid tees and downtown street shmatas.

I grabbed what could pass as "office professional" from my closet (nothing) then ran to 5th Avenue to grab some trousers, blouses, and sweater sets.

My shopping trip worked because the client quickly picked 3 outfits and told me to do my first change.

I sat down for the scene and all of my lines appeared on a TELEPROMPTER.

Did I mention that I am genius on a teleprompter?

Obama and I could have a great chat about this. It is a skill, you know.

It was the fastest job this week.

3 scenes, 3 changes.

1.5 hours. No lie.

it has been TWO WHOLE months.

We had a sun-filled long holiday weekend.

The pond was full, the bees were buzzing, and the lilies were about to burst.

On Monday, we had one of Jokin's pals and his family come visit, where unbeknownst to us, the other Mom and I were getting eaten alive by the dreaded no-see-ums.

Seven Against Thebes

I was invited by Mark Greenfield, old pal and founder of Faux-Real Theatre Company, to do a "little" play reading tonight of Aeschylus' SEVEN AGAINST THEBES. It will be an all women cast and will be performed as a part of this year's Summer Stage.

The Faux-Real Theatre Company transcends boundaries traditionally placed between artists and the public by inviting audiences to engage and interact directly with performers in environments that challenge theatrical conventions.

The name, Faux-Real, embodies an aesthetic in which the extraordinary and the quotidian meld into dynamic stage life. The company aims to deliver challenging texts, both classical and contemporary, in multi-dimensional productions that are engaging and accessible.

Written in 467 BC, Seven Against Thebes is the New York premiere of a fresh translation of Aeschylus’ classic by NEA recipient, Aaron Poochigian. This rarely performed play begins with the city of Thebes preparing for an invasion led by seven warriors as their leader Eteocles, tries to silence the protests of the city’s women. Faux-Real spins the Greek tradition of all-male theatre on its head by presenting this classic with an all-female cast of twelve. Clad in platform shoes, larger-than-life masks, and a chariot-full of colorful costumes, these actresses revel in song, dance and combat, as Aeschylus's words find new meaning in the mouths of these feisty females. The play ends with a post-mortem visit from Oedipus’ daughter Antigone, as Aeschylus chisels an early exploration into the modern themes of gender politics and the negative impact of war.

I AM YETTA FICHTENHOLTZ

Yetta was 18 when she died in the fire.
She lived around the corner from me at 229 East 8th Street.
Her sister Fanny had to identify her burned body.

Next week will mark the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.

On Sunday March 27 at 1:46pm, I will be walking as Yetta
with the other 146 women and men who fell victim to the fire.
We are walking from the site of the Triangle Building to the Eldridge Street Synagogue.
It will be the walk home that the factory workers were never able to make.
At the synagogue, I will be reciting a Morris Rosenfeld poem with Yankl Salant called,
To My Beloved.
I will be up in the balcony and Yankl will be down at the amud
.

We will also be performing the poem earlier in the week on
Thursday March 24th
at the Drama Book Shop
for the Art From The Ashes: The Fire That Changed Our World event.
